Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) is inviting tenants to have their say on a proposed new tenancy agreement as part of a public consultation.

The agreement, which applies to around 10,000 council properties managed by Solihull Community Housing (SCH), has been reviewed and updated to make it clearer, easier to understand and in line with current legislation, building safety requirements and housing standards.

Cllr Mark Parker, SMBC's cabinet member for housing, said it was important that tenants had the opportunity to comment before the agreement was finalised.

He said: "We want all our tenants to have the opportunity to comment on the proposed tenancy agreement before it is finalised.

"It is important that the agreement is clear, fair and fit for purpose, and that tenants understand how it affects them and their homes.

"Listening to our tenants is a key priority for the Council and SCH.

"The feedback we receive through this consultation will help us shape the final version of the agreement and ensure it reflects the needs and expectations of our residents.

"We will be writing to all tenants about the consultation, but there's no need to wait for your letter.

As the landlord, the council is legally required to provide tenants with a written tenancy agreement outlining their rights and responsibilities, rent and service charge arrangements, and repair obligations.

Residents can view the proposed agreement and submit feedback through the council's dedicated tenancy agreement consultation webpage.

The consultation closes at 11.59pm on Sunday, 15 November.

All responses will be reviewed before the revised agreement is presented for approval. Subject to approval, the new tenancy agreement is expected to come into effect in April 2027.
