Drivers are being warned of overnight lane closures on the M42 next month while HS2 carries out essential maintenance work.

Lanes three and four on the northbound carriageway of the M6/M42 connector road from M6 Junction 3A to the M42, and the M42 between Junctions 7A and 8, will be closed from 9pm to 6am each weekday night between Monday, September 14 and Friday, September 18.

HS2 said the closures are needed to complete work on a temporary Vehicle Restraint System (VRS) in the central reservation.

The organisation said road users should expect only a low level of noise while the work is carried out.

The maintenance forms part of the wider HS2 project, which is currently undergoing a "comprehensive reset" aimed at delivering the railway efficiently and at the lowest reasonable cost.

HS2 said the reset programme is being carried out in stages and is due to be completed in 2026.
