Plans to install a new security fence and gate at Lloyds Bank in Shirley have been approved by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC).

The application, submitted by Lloyds Banking Group, relates to the bank at 248 Stratford Road, Shirley, and seeks permission for additional security measures alongside an existing fire escape staircase.

According to the planning statement, the proposed works involve the installation of "a secure side gate and fence system to the side boundary of Lloyds Bank, following recent security concerns."

The scheme includes a 358 secure mesh fencing system, steel posts and a lockable access gate.

Planning documents state the fence will be approximately three metres high and include a mesh and sheeted lower section.

The installation area is located along the side and rear boundary of the site, which sits on Stratford Road among other commercial properties and next to a car park.

Documents submitted with the application noted that "the ground is uneven, requiring appropriate setting out and adjustments to ensure stability and alignment."

In the planning statement, the applicant said: "The proposed side gate and fencing installation is necessary to address security concerns at the site."

The statement added that the scheme is "a proportionate and appropriate solution that enhances site safety while maintaining the character of the surrounding area."

SMBC has now approved the application, allowing the bank to proceed with the security improvements.
