Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) has moved one set of roadworks near the town centre to overnight hours after drivers complained about congestion caused by two highway improvement schemes taking place at the same time.

The authority confirmed that Telent works at the Streetsbrook Road and Lode Lane island will now be carried out from 8pm onwards.

The announcement follows complaints from residents and commuters on social media, with many reporting lengthy delays and frustration while travelling through the area.

Several motorists said traffic had become particularly congested during peak travel times, with queues forming on key routes around the town centre.

Responding to the concerns, SMBC said: "We are aware there has been congestion caused by two sets of highway improvement works taking place near Solihull town centre.

"As a result, we have now moved the Telent works on the Streetsbrook Road/Lode Lane island to night-time only (8pm onwards).

"This means there will be no overlap in working times between the two improvement works."

The works form part of ongoing highway improvements in the area, which have required temporary traffic management measures while construction is carried out.

SMBC has advised motorists to check One Network for the latest traffic and roadworks information across the borough and to plan journeys in advance where possible while the works continue.
