Solihull planning round up: children's home, A45 access road, Morrisons redevelopment

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Furious residents as children's home approved
Frustrated campaigners shouted as a Shirley children's home was given the go-ahead by Solihull planners.
New Future Care's application to convert a four bedroom detached family house in Woodlands Lane into a children's home for two children, aged five to 17-years-old, went before Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) planning committee's latest meeting after being delayed last month due to typing errors in the application.
As the Local Democracy Reporting Service previously reported, a signed petition from 70 residential addresses was handed in to the authority, as well as 25 objections being lodged with the council during a consultation period.
At the start of the meeting planning officer Jon Hallam said a condition had been added regarding staff change over times to ensure they didn't clash with school pick up times, as officers were "mindful" of Woodlands Infant School being close by.
New A45 access road for BHX
A new access road off the A45 Coventry Road to serve Birmingham Airport's relocated car rental facility has been approved by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC).
The scheme will create a new signal-controlled junction on the A45, around half a kilometre west of the Damson Parkway junction, along with associated engineering works.
According to the planning statement submitted on behalf of Birmingham Airport, the access road forms part of the airport's wider development plans and investment programme.
The document said: "The most appropriate form of junction for new access would be a signalised all-movements junction."
Shirley Morrisons redevelopment
Ambitious plans to convert a former Shirley supermarket into a care home and residential homes have finally been brought forward again.
The site of the former Morrisons supermarket and HSBC has been vacant since 2019 and has attracted anti-social behaviour and vandalism ever since.
As the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported last month plans for the HSBC site in Stratford Road to be turned into three commercial units were given the green light, but questions remained over the future of the Morrisons section.
Now applicant MACC Group has submitted plans to demolish the former store and remove the car park to make way for a care home featuring 89 en-suite bedrooms, as well as communal facilities including lounges, a hair salon, gym, cinema, quiet rooms and a communal garden.
