A local golf club captain has celebrated an incredible fundraising achievement after completing a 100-hole marathon and raising £1,200 for charity.

Jon Garner, Club Captain at Robin Hood Golf Club took on the challenge in aid of his Captain's Charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, after his original event was cancelled due to extreme temperatures.

Determined to complete the fundraiser, Jon returned to the course early in the morning, teeing off at 4.42am with the aim of playing 90 holes.

He completed his first 54 holes before 10am and continued throughout the day, reaching the 90-hole milestone at 3.30pm.

But with the support of fellow members and a final burst of determination, Jon decided to keep going, eventually completing an incredible 100 holes by 5.30pm.

The challenge saw Jon walk 57,000 steps and cover around 30 miles, while members of the club came together to cheer him on, join him on the course and help keep him going.

Jon said: "What a day!

"Thanks to all members who donated and gave encouragement at the club today."

The fundraising efforts have already raised £1,200 for Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to the generosity of club members.

Jon added: "I can't thank everyone enough for the help and encouragement.

"The support made a huge difference."

Supporters who donate £5 or more will also be entered into a prize draw to win a Euro Camp holiday, kindly donated by club member Dave Thornhill.

The event showcased the strong community spirit at the club, with members coming together to support a great cause and celebrate a remarkable achievement.
