Over 350 solar panels are set to be installed at a local garden centre, following a decision by council planners.

Notcutts Garden Centre on Stratford Road has been given the green light to cover its roof with the panels by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.

Plans were signed off for the Shirley site this month.

According to the scheme submitted to the local authority, the 355 panels will have an output of 125,797 kWh.

"The solar captured will help meet Nottcuts garden centre energy demands," plans stated.

"115,797 kw will be used to help meet these demands, whilst the remaining 10,677 kw will be exported to the grid."

Plans continued: "The design of the proposed solar PV's is such that they will not result in significant effects on the external appearance of the building and thus impact the amenity of the surrounding area.

"The design is such that the majority of the panels will be located on the roof, largely out of public view."
