Fresh plans have been submitted to convert agricultural buildings in Meriden into a new home after an earlier proposal for the site was refused.

The application relates to buildings at Back Lane Farm, off Back Lane, and seeks permission to change their use from agricultural buildings to a residential property.

According to planning documents, the existing structure has an open front and large openings on the other sides.

The proposed conversion would keep the open frontage, adding large areas of glazing, while new windows and glazed doors would be installed elsewhere in the building to bring in natural light.

The latest application comes after Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) refused a previous proposal to convert the building into a home.

At the time, planning officers said they did not have enough information to show that the proposed garden area would meet planning rules.

They also found that plans for a basement were not allowed under the regulations used for the application.

A design statement submitted with the new application says sustainability and energy efficiency will be a key focus of the development.

The statement says measures including rainwater harvesting, ground source heating, solar electricity generation, battery storage and LED lighting could be incorporated into the home.

It adds: "The proposed change of use is intended to provide an enhancement to the landscape and character."

The statement also says sustainability and energy criteria "will be prioritised to meet and exceed current regulations".

The application is currently awaiting a decision from SMBC.
