A football club wants a new licence to enable fans to drink alcohol on the pitch while watching a planned music festival.

Earlier this year Solihull Moors announced its ground, the Armco Arena, would play host to the first Moors Tribute Festival on Sunday, May 3.

Tickets went on sale in January for the venture featuring tribute acts including Queen, Taylor Swift and Sam Fender with it being reported more than 1,000 were sold in the first 24 hours.

Should it be a success the club already has plans to make it an annual event.

But it has now emerged, with the Bank Holiday weekend fast approaching, the Damson Parkway-based venue needs to quickly secure the licence.

And in a blow for the club it is in the balance as there has been opposition.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has arranged a special meeting of its licensing act panel which will be tasked with making a decision next week.

Ahead of the meeting officers write in a report: "A premises licence is already in force at Solihull Moors Football Club which does not cover the pitch area.

"This existing licence will remain in force regardless of the decision made in relation to this application.

"The application is for a Moors Tribute Festival with all licensable activities taking place on the pitch. If the licence is granted, it is proposed a similar event is held annually."

If granted the licence would allow alcohol sales between 11am and 10.30pm, and live music, recorded music and dance between the same times.

The festival would be open to the public between 11am and 11pm.

An application form shows prominent festival director Ian Rogers who has helped establish events across the region including Solihull Summer Fest is behind the new event.

In the application form he writes: "The capacity for 2026 will be restricted to 5,000.

"None of the football stands to be used for any licensable activity.

"An event site specific event safety management plan (ESMP) will be developed and shared with the licensing authority and SAG group."

The organiser says the ESMP would cover various areas including entry conditions, drugs and weapons policy, alcohol management and traffic management.

"A letter drop will be undertaken to the local residents to include a hot line to allow residents to contact the event," he adds.

Laura McCarthy – ward councillor for Elmdon where the Armco Arena is based – has submitted an objection.

The councillor writes: "Although it is great to see events happening in Elmdon, and I want to see the club flourish, there currently isn't enough planned in relation to parking dispersal.

"Residents are regularly blocked on to or off their driveways, buses have struggled and emergency services have also struggled.

"The council has needed to spend significant amounts of public money implementing initiatives to try to prevent problem parking caused by the club.

"If additional events are due to take place the same problems will occur.

"General dispersal of huge numbers of customers from the premises will cause significant disruption to local residents.

"I have written to the club many times over the years to try to resolve the issues and received no response.

"So, reluctantly, with no parking plan in place I have to object."

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Civic Suite on April 20.
