Planning round up – Birmingham Airport McDonald’s latest application
By Sam Greenway - Local Democracy Reporter 14th Apr 2026
A fast food giant's plans for a drive-thru restaurant at Birmingham Airport have overcome another planning hurdle.
McDonald's has already received Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council approval for the venture at the airport's Car Park 6.
And as the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported last September the new restaurant, south-east of the Airport Way/Viking Road/Jetstream Road roundabout, moved a step closer as preparatory conditions which featured in the planning permission agreement were signed off.
The authority's website shows that in February the global fast food restaurant applied for further permission to amend the plan for McDonald's custom letters on the building.
And the application was also for the digital screen next to the drive-thru queue area, displaying the menu and prices, to be moved.
Planning agents Lichfield said in the application: "McDonald's custom letters were granted consent in January 2025.
"This application sees the letters slightly changed on the building's south east elevation.
"The custom letters will be white acrylic "McDonald's" text.
"Advertisement consent includes the erection of a single digital screen in the vicinity of the drive-thru lane – it is now proposed that this single digital screen signage be relocated."
The authority's website has now been updated to show officer Mark Andrews, the council's head of planning, design and engagement services, issued a decision notice granting planning consent on April 8.
