The A45 remains closed near Meriden following a major car fire earlier this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on the dual carriageway heading towards Birmingham just after midday.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson told Nub News: "Shortly after 12.30pm on Friday (7 August), we responded to the A45, Meridan Bypass.

"A fire engine from Canley attended, arriving to find a car fire on the road. Firefighters extinguish the fire, which is believed to have started accidentally, using a hose reel.

"The A45 towards Birmingham remains closed in this area, with highways now working at the scene."
