A Solihull charity shop is set to transform into a slice of the American West this weekend as it hosts a two-day Country and Western event packed with themed fashion, homeware and live music.

The Marie Curie shop in Knowle will hold the event on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, with fresh stock being added overnight between the two days.

Visitors can browse a wide range of country-inspired items that staff have been collecting and saving throughout the year, including leather bags, boots and jackets, denim brands such as Levi's, Carhartt, Lee and Wrangler, cowboy hats, trucker caps and bandanas.

The shop will also feature vintage and wooden homeware, brass items, plants and succulents, as well as a children's section filled with horse, farmyard and cowboy-themed toys.

Adding to the atmosphere, live country music performances will take place during the day from Two Ways Home and Robin David Cooper.

The event follows the success of last year's Country and Western weekend, which proved to be the shop's most successful themed event to date.

A spokesperson for Marie Curie Knowle said: "Despite the weather, Country and Western proved to be our most successful event to date last year.

"The American West seems to have re-entered the cultural zeitgeist in the past few years, be that through music, film and television, and even video games.

"The genre has made a comeback, particularly among the younger generations, so it's no surprise that this event performed so well."

The shop has increasingly embraced themed events as a way of attracting new visitors while raising money for Marie Curie's work supporting people living with terminal illness and their families.

The spokesperson added: "Over the past few years we've been really pushing our themed events at Marie Curie Knowle as a way of expanding the remit of the charity shop on the UK high street, giving back to the community and of course raising money for this fantastic cause.

"Country and Western in particular was chosen because it spans a wide range of departments in the shop.

"All of our leather goods, jackets, shoes and handbags suit the Western aesthetic, while the vintage homeware attracts collectors trying to grab a bargain.

"Even the children's window will be full of horses and cowboy-themed toys."

The event takes place at Marie Curie Knowle on 12 and 13 September, with new stock being brought out on Saturday evening ready for Sunday's shoppers.
