Council planners have given the green light for a former bus shelter and public toilet in the centre of Knowle to be turned into two new commercial units.

High Street Location Ltd has been granted planning permission for the works, which will also see extensions built on the Station Road building.

"The existing building has been somewhat neglected since its closure in 2007 and requires a new lease of life which has been made possible with the lease obtained from Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council by High Street Location Ltd," the application said.

The company said the build will "result in enhancing the local community".

Plans show extensions would be built on the east, west and south side of the historic shelter.

Existing Cyprus trees will be removed and new cherry trees planted.

Plans signed off by the council show the building would be split into two units.

Both would be 'class E' which covers a range of uses including shops, cafes, offices, health and fitness and even nurseries.

"The proposal is utilising the existing building and extending it in a sympathetic way to the surrounding area so as not to affect the external setting," the application continued.

"There will be no adverse impact on views, and the Bus Shelter will remain in situ together with seating."

The application did not say what businesses would take over the two units.
