Plans for four new houses to be built on green belt land in Dickens Heath have been signed off by council planners.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has granted planning permission for the pair of semi-detached homes to be built on a garden along Tythe Barn Lane.

Plans signed off last month show each would have four bedrooms and two parking spaces.

The application said the new houses will "be wholly in keeping with the character and appearance" of the area.

Proposals first submitted in December last year recognised the area is green belt, but argued as the council cannot demonstrate a five-year housing supply, the plans should be waved through and the area considered 'grey belt'

Signing off on the application, a council report agreed, saying: "The proposal would utilise grey belt land that would not fundamentally undermine the purposes (taken together) of the remaining green belt across the area of the plan.

"There is an identified demonstrable unmet housing need for the type of development proposed.

"Therefore, the proposal should be regarded as 'not inappropriate' development in the green belt."

Council planners also said the scheme would create a "legible and cohesive development".
