Council planners have given the green light for a new emergency access to be built at a local McDonald's.

The 24/7 fast food eatery opened at Birmingham Airport in May this year after planning permission for the Jetstream Road business was approved last year.

Now, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has given planning permission for works in the car park to create a new emergency vehicle access.

An electrical substation will need to be moved as part of the works.

A council report said: "The proposed works will be sited on the northern area of the site.

"This will see a new opening and access formed onto Jetstream Road with drop kerb to service the new substation.

"There will be a new pair of lockable 1.8m high heavy duty steel vehicle gates and gate posts for emergency substation access and maintenance.

"To further facilitate access to service the new substation, the proposed development includes substation service vehicle parking with access to a locked gate."

When it opened earlier this year, the new 50-seater restaurant was said to have created more than 100 new full and part-time jobs.

It is operated by franchisee Dean Chapman, who now owns and operates 14 McDonald's restaurants.

Signing off on the latest application, a council report said: "The proposed emergency access adjacent to the new McDonalds would represent an appropriate addition to the site and will help to improve the facilities on site.

"Furthermore, due to the nature and location of the proposed development, the emergency access is not expected to cause any unreasonable loss of light, or privacy, or have an overbearing impact on the amenities of nearby premises."
