Consultaion underway for new Solihull children's home

A plan to turn another family home into a children's care home has been submitted to Solihull planners.
Applicant Hardial Panesar's proposal to turn a four-bedroom property in Wells Green Road into a care home for three children was submitted to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) on October 15.
The applicant says the two-storey, semi-detached home is well placed for schools, healthcare, shops, open space and public transport.
And a planning statement from planning agents Anjum Design Ltd says: "The home will accommodate a maximum of three children aged between five and 17 years old.
"The home will be registered with Ofsted and will care for children with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties, learning difficulties and/or sensory impairment.
"Children will be cared for on a medium-to-long-term basis, enabling them to integrate into the local community, build stable relationships with their carers, and access local education and services.
"On a typical weekday afternoon, once the children have returned from school, the maximum number of people at the property will be seven – three children, three care staff and the registered manager.
"Staff shift changeovers will be managed in a co-ordinated manner to minimise the number of vehicles at the property at any one time."
The statement highlights the national shortage of children's home placements, and highlights a recent children's home appeal decision in Buryfield Road.
That went against the council as an inspector said it would not be "significant" or "substantially different to a family home".
The agents' statement adds: "No external alterations are proposed; the property will retain its existing domestic appearance, and the use is residential in character and consistent with the surrounding neighbourhood.
"The level of activity, vehicle movements and pattern of comings and goings will not be materially different from those of a large family household, and no adverse impact on residential amenity, highway safety or the character of the area will result.
"Solihull Council is respectfully invited to support this application and grant planning permission without delay."
A consultation is now underway with a closing date for submissions of November 20.
