Compassionate staff and positive atmosphere praised at Solihull care home

A Solihull care home has been rated Good across all five areas following its latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Blossomfield Rose, which provides nursing and personal care for up to 80 older people, including some living with dementia, was inspected between 14 July and 3 August.
At the time of the inspection, 74 people were living at the service.
Inspectors found people were cared for by "a compassionate staff team who knew them well, respected their preferences and delivered care in a person-centred, flexible and responsive way".
The report said systems were in place to help protect people from harm and that people's needs and risks to their health and wellbeing were regularly assessed and reviewed.
Residents and their relatives gave positive feedback about the care provided.
One relative told inspectors: "They're [care staff] absolutely lovely and hug us when we go in to visit.
"Really kind and thoughtful.
"They are definitely trained to do deliver care.
"A carer said she treats [name of person] like they are a relative."
Another resident said: "It is a most pleasant place; I couldn't wish for a better view from my room."
Inspectors observed positive interactions between residents and staff and said people were treated with dignity and respect while being supported to make choices and maintain their independence.
Bhav Amlani, Director of Macc Care Group, said: "We're delighted to see Blossomfield Rose rated 'Good' across all five areas, particularly because so much of the CQC's feedback reflects what we set out to create when the home first opened."
He added: "It was especially pleasing to see inspectors recognise the warm and welcoming atmosphere, the positive relationships between colleagues and those living at the home, and the way people are supported to make choices, pursue their interests and remain involved in their own care."
The CQC also praised the home's leadership, describing the service as "well led, with clear values and a positive culture embedded throughout daily practice".
While the inspection was positive overall, inspectors found medicines were not always stored safely and decision-specific mental capacity assessments were not always completed where required.
However, the provider took prompt action to address the issues identified.
Despite those concerns, the home achieved Good ratings across all areas, with inspectors highlighting the positive experiences of residents and relatives and the caring approach of staff.
