West Midlands Railway (WMR) has confirmed that planned strike action due to take place this weekend has been suspended, meaning trains will run to the normal timetable.

The rail operator had warned customers that services on Friday, 31 July and Saturday, 1 August would be significantly reduced because of industrial action by members of the TSSA trade union.

Under the contingency timetable, only a limited number of routes were expected to operate, including the Cross City Line, Wolverhampton to Walsall services and trains between Rugeley Trent Valley and Birmingham International.

No trains had been scheduled to run on several other routes, including services via Birmingham Snow Hill, the Camp Hill Line, Nuneaton to Leamington Spa, Birmingham New Street to Hereford and Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury.

However, following further talks between WMR and the TSSA, the strike action has now been suspended, and passengers can expect services to run as normal across the network.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at West Midlands Railway, said: "We are pleased the TSSA has suspended its strike action, which would have been disruptive for our customers.

"We now look forward to running our usual timetable on Friday and Saturday."

Passengers are advised to check before they travel, but WMR says a full service is expected to operate on both days.
