Touchwood Shopping Centre marked a major milestone over the weekend as residents, businesses and community leaders came together to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Sardul Marwa MBE JP, joined the celebrations at the town centre destination, which has become a focal point for shopping, dining and leisure since opening on 5 September 2001 on the site of the former Civic Hall car park.

Over the past quarter of a century, Touchwood has grown into one of the region's best-known retail and entertainment destinations, playing a key role in the continued development and success of Solihull town centre.

Many visitors will also remember the centre's royal connection. In July 2002, Queen Elizabeth II toured the complex and unveiled a commemorative plaque, which remains on display in the Golden Jubilee Gardens.

To mark the anniversary, visitors enjoyed a range of activities throughout the day, including the chance to create limited-edition lino print artwork with local artist Cris Wong, browse stalls hosted by local businesses and meet organisations from across the region.

The mayor joined shoppers, businesses and community representatives to celebrate the centre's achievements and its contribution to the borough over the last 25 years.

Councillor Marwa said: "It was a pleasure to join the celebrations marking 25 years of Touchwood.

"Over the last quarter of a century, it has become an important part of Solihull town centre, bringing people together to shop, dine, socialise and enjoy everything our borough has to offer.

"As we look to the future, it is exciting to see the continued investment being made in our town centre, including the Holbeche Place development, creating new opportunities for residents, businesses and visitors, helping to ensure Solihull remains a vibrant and welcoming destination for years to come.

"This anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on Touchwood's contribution to Solihull's success and to recognise everyone who has helped make it such a valued destination for residents and visitors alike.

The anniversary celebrations not only recognised Touchwood's success over the last 25 years but also highlighted continued confidence in Solihull town centre as a place to live, work, visit and invest.
