A Solihull MP is urging Post Office Limited to provide a temporary service for Cheswick Green residents following the closure of the village's Post Office.

Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, MP for Solihull West and Shirley, has written to the chief executive of Post Office Limited after residents raised concerns about the ongoing closure and the impact it is having on the local community.

In his letter, Dr Shastri-Hurst called for a temporary solution to be put in place while a permanent replacement branch is secured.

The MP said residents had contacted him to highlight the difficulties caused by the closure, particularly for older people, those with limited mobility and people who rely on local access to Post Office services.

He has urged Post Office Limited to recognise the effect the closure is having on the village and to work with local stakeholders to ensure residents can continue accessing essential services.

Dr Shastri-Hurst said: "I know how important the Post Office is to many residents in Cheswick Green and understand the concern that its closure has caused.

"For many people, particularly older residents and those without easy access to transport, the Post Office provides essential services that they rely on regularly.

"I have written to the Chief Executive and have made clear the need for a temporary solution while a longer-term arrangement is put in place.

"Residents should not be left without access to these important services for an extended period."

He added: "I will continue to work with the Post Office and press for progress on behalf of the community.

"I know how valued this facility is locally, and I am determined to see a solution that meets the needs of residents."

The MP also thanked residents who had contacted him about the issue, saying their feedback helped him make the strongest possible case for action and that he would continue to keep the community updated as discussions progress.
