Streetsbrook Road set for resurfacing next week, but residents demand pavement repairs too

Residents say they are relieved their Solihull road notorious for its potholes is finally being resurfaced next week – but are calling for pavements to also be treated.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) visited the area where cars often swerve around potholes in the road to avoid them.
During out visit we saw the potholes in a stretch near Dorchester Road, Sharmans Cross Road and Stonor Park Road, and how cars were forced to roll over them in heavy traffic at peak times.
A Streetsbrook Road resident who has lived on the road for nearly three decades said: "There's an enormous amount of potholes around here – it's a disgrace.
"They are everywhere."
Signs have now gone up saying: "Road closed. Carriageway resurfacing – Monday, (October 5), approximately 10 nights."
A diversion route is set to be in place during the work taking place between the hours of 8pm and 6am.
The resident said that although it would be disruptive he was happy the roads were being done. But he also highlighted the pavements are cracking in places with no plans to resurface them.
A neighbour agreed saying: "It all needs doing, including pavements.
"When I pull out my car bounces off them – they need to do the pavements as well."
A Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) spokesperson said: "We are prioritising those areas that need the interventions in line with Department for Transport standards.
"Most of our footways are in good condition and we inspect these regularly.
"Where a footway requires treatment, it will be programmed in accordingly."
Meanwhile residents had also reported seeing cameras in the road recently, questioning what these had been and if it was linked to the scheduled highways work.
Clearing this up, the council spokesperson said: "The cameras in question are taking traffic counts for the transport planning team."
The full details of the scheduled work can be found by searching for Streetsbrook Road at www.one.network.
