The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Sardul Marwa MBE JP, welcomed a group of local residents who were recognised in this year's King's Birthday Honours list to the Mayor's Parlour in celebration of their achievements and service to their communities.

Around 1,200 people across the UK received honours as part of the King's Birthday Honours list, which recognises individuals from all walks of life, including volunteers, public servants, professionals and community champions who have made a significant impact through their work.

During the visit, the mayor met with the recipients to discuss the achievements that led to their honours and the positive difference they have made through their dedication and service.

The gathering also highlighted the talent, commitment and community spirit found across Solihull and the wider West Midlands.

Speaking after the event, Cllr Marwa said: "It was a real pleasure to welcome these remarkable individuals to the Mayor's Parlour and to congratulate them on receiving such well-deserved honours.

"Whether through volunteering, community engagement, public service or sporting achievement, each of these recipients has made a positive difference and is a credit to Solihull and the wider West Midlands.

"On behalf of the borough, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations and thank them for their dedication, commitment and the example they set for others."

Among those welcomed was Lee Carsley, coach of the England Men's Under-21 Football Team, who received an MBE after guiding the side to UEFA European Under-21 Championship titles in both 2023 and 2025.

Other recipients included Gordon Cresswell, recognised with an MBE for services to the payroll profession in the West Midlands, while Alan Grigg, Georgina Johnstone, Michael Leonard and John Wright each received a British Empire Medal (BEM) for their contributions to voluntary service, policing, community engagement and cricket.

An MBE is awarded for outstanding achievement or service with a long-term and significant impact, while a BEM recognises dedicated hands-on service to a local community or organisation.
