A new interactive Wayfinding Unit has been installed at the entrance to Solihull Station to help residents and visitors find their way around the borough.

The touchscreen unit, the first of its kind in Solihull and only the second in the country, provides information on local attractions, restaurants, events, entertainment venues and services.

It also features a detailed map of the borough, alongside practical information including weather updates, transport links, shopping destinations and council services.

Cllr Wazma Qais, cabinet portfolio holder for communities, said the unit would help make information about the borough more accessible.

"I'm delighted to unveil Solihull's first Wayfinding and Local Information Unit, which our visitor economy team, Visit Solihull, have worked closely with Bauer Media to bring to life," she said.

"It's important that information about our borough is as accessible as possible.

"This unit will be a fantastic asset for visitors, residents and local businesses, helping everyone arriving at Solihull Station easily find what they need, from parks and transport links to local events, attractions and places to eat.

"Solihull Station is already a key gateway to our town centre, which remains one of the strongest performing in the country.

"This new Wayfinding Unit, which is only the second of its kind in the country, is a valuable addition that will help as we meet growing passenger demand over the coming decade and support our ambitions for future growth."

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council worked with Bauer Media Outdoor UK to identify the location for the unit.

Bauer covered the installation costs and will be responsible for its ongoing maintenance, with the council receiving a share of advertising revenue.

The installation comes as Solihull Station continues to serve as a key gateway to the town centre, with the council saying the unit will help support visitors, residents and local businesses as passenger numbers are expected to grow over the coming decade.
