A 16-year-old Scout who has been part of 4th Knowle Sea Scouts since the age of six has been named the Mayor of Solihull's official Sea Scout for the year.

Josh Tomlinson was formally introduced to the Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Sardul Marwa MBE JP, and will accompany him to civic and community events throughout the year, including Remembrance Sunday.

The appointment is part of a long-standing tradition in which 4th Knowle Sea Scouts, based at Arden School, selects a member of the group each year to represent the Mayor.

Josh has progressed through Beavers, Cubs and Scouts before moving into Explorers.

He has also achieved his Chief Scout's Gold Award, the highest award available in the Scout section for young people aged 10.5 to 14.

He is now working towards his Young Leader Award.

Josh said: "I'm honoured to be this year's official Sea Scout for the Mayor of Solihull.

"I'm really looking forward to meeting new people in the community and representing 4th Knowle Sea Scouts."

He also enjoys mountain biking, playing sport and cooking for family and friends.

Cllr Marwa said: "I am delighted to welcome Josh as this year's Mayor's Sea Scout.

"He has already shown real commitment through his achievements in Scouting, as well as his ambitions both in and out of school.

"The Mayor's Sea Scout is a valued Solihull tradition and gives a young person a unique opportunity to represent the borough at civic events throughout the year.

"I look forward to working with Josh and seeing him grow in the role. I wish him every success for the year ahead."
