Residents are being invited to have their say on plans to convert a house in Solihull into a specialist care home for adults with complex needs.

The proposal, submitted by Mr Khan, would see Elmdon House in Elmdon Park transformed from a family home into a residential care home accommodating up to four adults aged between 18 and 65.

According to planning documents submitted to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC), the home would provide "specialist residential accommodation" for people requiring round-the-clock support within a "safe, stable and structured residential environment".

The care home would operate using what is described as a "domestic household model of care", with residents having their own private accommodation while sharing communal living, dining and kitchen facilities.

The planning statement says: "This arrangement provides residents with a homely environment that supports privacy, dignity and appropriate social interaction, while ensuring continuous care and supervision in accordance with individual care management plans."

The facility would run 24 hours a day, seven days a week and a minimum staffing ratio of one care worker per resident would be maintained at all times.

The applicant says the scheme would have little impact on the surrounding area, noting that the property's appearance would remain unchanged.

"The proposal would retain the existing appearance of the building and would not introduce any external features that would materially change the domestic character of the property or its relationship with the surrounding area," the planning statement adds.

The application also highlights a growing need for specialist adult social care provision in Solihull.

It references the council's Adult Social Care Five-Year Plan and Market Position Statement, which identify demand for a wider range of accommodation and support options for adults with complex needs.

Planning documents state the proposal would make a "modest but meaningful contribution" by providing person-centred care in a small residential setting.

A public consultation on the application will begin on 22 September, after which SMBC will consider the plans before deciding.
