A popular Irish-themed pub Solihull is set to close temporarily later this month as it undergoes a refurbishment.

O'Neill's on Poplar Road will welcome customers for a "last hurrah" on September 7 before shutting its doors for just over two weeks.

In a message on its website, the pub said: "Something new is brewing at O'Neill's Solihull.

"We're getting ready for a fresh new look that will make the pints, live music and unforgettable nights even better."

The venue is scheduled to reopen on September 25, with bookings already being taken for its return.

The closure comes shortly after plans for external improvements to the building were approved by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.

Earlier this year, permission was granted for a series of changes to the outside of the pub, including new signage, decorative lighting and alterations to the beer garden area.

O'Neill's has not confirmed whether the upcoming refurbishment is connected to those approved works.

The pub added: "Join us for one last hurrah on 7th September before we close temporarily.

"We'll reopen on 25th September, and bookings are now open."

O'Neill's is one of Solihull town centre's best-known pubs, hosting live music, sport and regular events throughout the year.
