Households across Solihull will begin receiving new food waste caddies from Monday, 3 August, ahead of the launch of a weekly food waste collection service later this year.

Residents living in houses or flats with their own bins or sacks will receive a 7-litre kitchen caddy, a 23-litre lockable outdoor caddy and information about how to use the new service.

The deliveries will take place in phases throughout August and September, with more than 78,000 households set to receive the caddies.

Residents do not need to be at home when deliveries are made.

The new weekly food waste collections, along with a move to fortnightly rubbish collections, will begin on Monday, 5 October.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's (SMBC) cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, cllr Ken Hawkins, said: "While all councils in England are required to introduce weekly food waste collections as part of the Government's Simpler Recycling scheme, it is a fantastic opportunity for us all to waste less and recycle more.

"With more than 78,000 households to deliver to, it will take over six weeks for everyone to receive theirs, so bear with us while we work our way around the borough."

Residents are being advised to put their house number on their outdoor caddy and keep the containers aside until collections begin in October.

People living in flats without their own bins will receive the service in 2027, with further details expected next year.
