Plans to install a public defibrillator and bleed kit outside a Solihull town centre bank have been approved by council planners.

Nationwide Building Society has been given the go-ahead to install the lifesaving equipment at its branch on Station Road.

Documents submitted as part of the application show the defibrillator and bleed kit will be mounted outside the building, providing round-the-clock access.

A planning statement submitted on behalf of Nationwide said: "Nationwide Building Society are committed to supporting the communities they serve, with branches located at the centre of high streets across the UK.

"As part of this commitment to community wellbeing, they aim to install lifesaving equipment to some of their branches to ensure people have rapid, 24/7 access to vital emergency equipment whenever it is needed."

The statement added that the equipment will be supplied by St John Ambulance, with Nationwide branding displayed on the front of the cabinets.

It said: "The details of the cabinets, from St John Ambulance, along with the branding that Nationwide Building Society intend to apply to the face of the cabinets, are also enclosed."

The plans were approved by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council in June this year, after the application was submitted in April.
