Residents have raised concerns about speeding on Longdon Road in Knowle, claiming dangerous driving has contributed to a number of accidents and is putting pedestrians at risk.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said they had witnessed four crashes on the road since moving to the area, including a recent incident in which a vehicle overturned.

They told Nub News: "Since I have been a resident of Longdon Road there have been four car accidents due to speeding, with the most recent seeing a car landing on its roof just before the kids walk home from school.

"We've seen other roads in Knowle having speed bumps and pelican crossings.

"Day and night we have cars speeding and it's a risk to the neighbourhood, especially since it's such a pedestrian-heavy road with joggers, dog walkers, and school kids."

Another resident also raised concerns about driving on the road, claiming they had witnessed motorists racing each other at night.

They said: "speeding has become a regular issue and I fear dangerous driving could result in a serious incident."

In response to the concerns, West Midlands Police said officers work alongside partner organisations to tackle dangerous driving and improve road safety.

A spokesperson said: "We work with a range of partners to help keep the roads safe and we won't tolerate any form of reckless or dangerous driving.

"We'd encourage anyone who has witnessed speeding to report it to us.

"We can look to target our policing activity in areas where it's believed motorists are putting others at risk."

Anyone with concerns about speeding or dangerous driving in their area is encouraged to report incidents to West Midlands Police.
