Residents invited to Olton police community meeting over crime concerns
By Emily Griffin 14th Oct 2026
Residents concerned about car thefts, burglaries and antisocial behaviour in Olton will have the chance to raise their concerns directly with police at a community meeting this Friday (October 16).
The meeting has been arranged by Olton ward councillor James Johnson, with help from Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP, Member of Parliament for the Solihull West and Shirley Constituency, following concerns raised by residents about crime and safety.
It will take place at St Margaret's Church at 4pm.
In a post on Facebook, Cllr Johnson said: "Many of you, my neighbours, have been in touch with me recently to voice your concerns about crime in Olton.
"In particular, you have raised concerns around the theft of or from cars, burglary and antisocial behaviour."
Speaking to Nub News, Cllr Johnson said car thefts had become a particular concern, with residents sharing doorbell camera footage of people checking vehicle door handles late at night.
He said: "We're seeing people scouting out areas late at night, trying door handles to see whether they're unlocked.
"Residents share footage from their Ring doorbells showing people wearing balaclavas and other face coverings, checking which properties might be easy targets."
Inconsiderate parking, particularly around school drop-off and pick-up times, was also highlighted as an issue by Cllr Johnson.
He said the meeting would give residents an opportunity to explain their experiences and receive reassurance about the work being carried out by police.
"I want people to feel that their voices are being heard," he said.
"Some residents feel they are constantly raising concerns without being listened to or seeing anything being done."
Cllr Johnson added that police officers often carry out work behind the scenes that residents may not be aware of.
He hopes the meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss what is being done to address local concerns, identify issues requiring further action and follow up with residents afterwards.
Residents concerned about crime and community safety in Olton are invited to attend the meeting at St Margaret's Church on Friday, October 16, at 4pm.
