Council planners have given the go-ahead for fresh plans to demolish a large Solihull home to make way for a block of flats.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has granted permission for the 1970s home on Whitefields Road to be flattened and replaced with six apartments.

A similar application was approved by the local authority in 2019, but the build was never completed and that permission has since lapsed.

"The proposal seeks permission for the demolition of the existing two-storey dwelling and its replacement with a purpose-designed residential building containing six generous two-bedroom apartments," the latest scheme said.

"Each apartment has been carefully planned to provide high-quality, spacious accommodation ranging from approximately 1,149 to 1,604 sq ft, significantly exceeding minimum national space standards and providing future residents with a level of comfort and flexibility rarely offered in new-build apartments within the borough."

Plans show the new building would have on-site parking, cycle storage, a "substantial" communal garden as well as a lift inside.

The application continued: "The appearance of the proposed building is founded on a refined Arts and Crafts architectural language, drawing on the established character of Whitefields Road while introducing a subtle contemporary interpretation.

"The design blends traditional proportions, steeply pitched roofs, gabled forms, and carefully modelled brickwork with more streamlined detailing, producing a building that is both rooted in local vernacular and distinctly modern in its execution.

"This balanced approach ensures the development reads as a high-quality, bespoke residence rather than a conventional apartment block."

Plans were approved by the council's planning department in June.
