The MP for Solihull West and Shirley has visited a supported living service in Olton to see the progress of a community garden transformation project.

Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst visited Cornerways, a supported living service managed by Solihull Community Housing and supported by Aspects Care, where residents, volunteers and supporters have been working to restore the site's gardens.

Earlier this year, the Friends of Cornerways group was established with the aim of transforming the outdoor space into a more accessible and welcoming environment for residents with learning disabilities, sensory impairments and physical disabilities.

During the visit, Dr Shastri-Hurst met residents and volunteers and heard about the work that has gone into improving the garden.

The project has seen an overgrown and underused area transformed into a space designed to support residents' health and wellbeing while providing somewhere they can enjoy and take pride in.

Dr Shastri-Hurst also joined volunteers in helping to spread new shingle as part of the ongoing improvements.

Speaking after the visit, he said: "It was a real pleasure to visit Cornerways and see first-hand the work that residents, volunteers and supporters have put into transforming the garden.

"It was fantastic to hear about the journey from an overgrown and neglected space to one that residents can now be rightly proud of.

"Having an accessible outdoor space like this can make a real difference to people's health and wellbeing.

"I was more than happy to get stuck in and help spread the new shingle, and it was lovely to spend time with residents and see the project progressing.

"It was clear how much the garden means to them, and how proud they are of what they have helped to create."

He added: "I would like to thank everyone involved with Friends of Cornerways for all the time and effort they have put into making this project such a success, and for making me feel so welcome during my visit.

"I look forward to seeing how the garden continues to develop and, most importantly, seeing residents continue to enjoy a space that they have helped transform."
