A major Solihull commercial building which has sat empty for two years can now be demolished after permission was waived through.

Planners at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) have said further approval is not needed for the former Fujitsu site at Solihull Parkway to be flattened.

The building was occupied by Fujitsu for 34 years, and is due to be bulldozed to make way for a new development.

A demolition notice submitted to SMBC by Kirkstone Holdings (Midlands) Limited said the works would involve the removal of "all buildings and structures to slab level".

The application described the site as "vacant and outdated", saying the redevelopment is proposed for a later date.

First put forward in May, the application said work is expected to start in August. Works are expected to last around 10 weeks.

Plans also state a full planning application to redevelop the site will be submitted, but said the demolition is needed "due to security issues on site".

Fujitsu occupied the site from March 1991 until 2024, when the buildings became vacant.
