Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, MP for Solihull West and Shirley, joined local residents at the Solihull Fire Station Open Day, where families enjoyed an afternoon of displays, demonstrations and community activities.

The event, hosted by West Midlands Fire Service, gave visitors the chance to meet local firefighters, learn more about the work they do to keep communities safe, and take part in a range of family-friendly attractions.

During the visit, Dr Shastri-Hurst met with Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuhill to discuss the challenges currently facing the Fire Service during the recent spell of exceptionally hot weather.

The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Sardul Marwa, also attended the event in his role as the borough's First Citizen.

Speaking after the event, Dr Shastri-Hurst praised the efforts of firefighters and the success of the open day.

He said: "The Solihull Fire Station Open Day certainly didn't disappoint.

"There were some brilliant displays and plenty for families to enjoy.

"It was a pleasure to meet, once again, Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuhill and discuss the pressures the recent heatwave has placed on the Fire Service and to thank him, and all those serving with West Midlands Fire Service, for everything they do to keep our communities safe.

"It was also great to see so many local residents turning out to support the event."

The open day provided an opportunity for residents to learn more about fire safety, see emergency equipment up close and gain an insight into the day-to-day work of firefighters serving communities across Solihull and the wider West Midlands.
