Families across Solihull are being invited to get a behind-the-scenes look at the work of the emergency services as West Midlands Fire Service hosts an open day at Solihull Fire Station.

Taking place from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 18 July, the free event promises a day of interactive activities, demonstrations and community stalls for visitors of all ages.

Residents will have the chance to meet local firefighters and learn more about the work carried out by the fire service, while enjoying displays from fire, ambulance and police teams.

Among the attractions on offer will be emergency service vehicles, a smoke room experience, ladder rescue demonstrations, and a road traffic collision demonstration.

Visitors can also find out more about careers in the fire service, including firefighter recruitment and fitness tests.

Families will also have the opportunity to meet Holly, the fire service dog, while younger visitors can enjoy face painting, and a range of charity and community stalls.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

To help ensure accessibility, organisers will provide baby changing facilities, a sensory room and a dedicated quiet space for visitors.

West Midlands Fire Service says the open day is suitable for anyone interested in a career in the emergency services, learning more about fire safety, or simply looking for a family-friendly day out during the summer.

The event will take place at Solihull Fire Station on Streetsbrook Road and no booking is required.
