Solihull families are being encouraged to access a range of free activities, support, and services available during the school summer holidays through Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's (SMBC) 'Here2Help this summer' campaign.

The campaign has been launched to provide support during the long summer break, which can be a challenging time for families.

A programme of free activities will be available at Best Start Family Hubs across the borough, with events including circus skills, fun fairs, film screenings, animal shows, science workshops, and treasure hunts.

The family hubs also offer safe spaces for parents and children to spend time together, access advice, and connect with local activities and support services.

Families can find details of events taking place at their nearest hub through SMBC's activity timetable.

Financial help is also available, with meal vouchers provided earlier this month to eligible families through the crisis and resilience fund (CRF), formerly known as the household support fund.

The fund can also support residents facing sudden financial difficulties, helping towards essential costs including energy, water, heating, cooking, and grocery expenses.

Solihull's Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme will begin on 18 July, offering activities for children and young people from reception to year 11 who are eligible for free school meals.

With more than 40 providers across almost 80 venues, the programme will provide a wide range of activities throughout the holidays.

Further support includes specialist sessions for children with SEND, the annual reading challenge at Solihull libraries, Ofsted-registered holiday childcare and days out across Solihull and the wider region.

Cllr Karen Grinsell, Leader of SMBC and cabinet member for Children and Education, said the scheme would help ensure families "feel supported, connected and confident" over the summer months.

She added: "It's important for families to know what's available so they can take full advantage during what we know can be a challenging time, and we remain committed to making sure families have the right help at the right time, all year round."
