Solihull's economy grew by 6.3% in 2024, nearly five times the national average, according to new figures.

The borough's economy was worth £12.53 billion in 2024, accounting for 14% of the total economic output of the West Midlands Combined Authority area.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show Solihull's economic output increased by £724 million in real terms between 2023 and 2024, compared with national growth of 1.3%.

The data also shows Solihull continues to outperform regional and national averages for economic productivity.

Gross Value Added (GVA) per head stood at £56,653 in Solihull, 49% higher than the England average and 92% above the West Midlands Combined Authority average.

This makes Solihull the highest-performing upper-tier local authority in the West Midlands for GVA per capita.

The figures also highlight the borough's recovery following the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After a sharp decline in economic output during 2020, Solihull's economy has grown every year since 2021 when adjusted for inflation.

Between 2020 and 2024, the economy expanded by 31%, significantly outpacing national and regional averages.

Based on the latest comparable data, Solihull had the 14th largest economy in Great Britain and the fifth largest outside London and the South East.

Cllr Heather Delaney, deputy leader of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) and cabinet member for economy, employment and skills, said the figures highlighted the borough's position as one of the UK's leading economic centres.

She said: "These figures underscore Solihull's position as one of the UK's leading economic centres.

"They show the scale and productivity of our local economy and demonstrate the resilience of our businesses and residents.

"Solihull experienced a significant economic shock during the pandemic, yet our recovery has outpaced regional and national averages, and we continue to attract investment, create jobs and support business growth."

Cllr Delaney added that although GVA figures were published with a time lag, more recent business data continued to point to strong economic activity, business confidence and investment.

She said this reinforced Solihull's role as a key driver of growth in the West Midlands and the wider UK economy.
