Residents across Meriden and Solihull East are being invited to nominate their favourite local pub as part of a competition launched by MP Saqib Bhatti.

The Best Pub Competition aims to celebrate the role pubs play in bringing communities together and recognise venues that provide a welcoming space for residents, visitors and local groups.

Nominations are open until 31 August, with residents able to put forward their chosen pub through the competition website.

The winning venue will be announced after nominations close.

The competition returns after The Greenwood Pub was named the winner of the previous Best Pub Competition.

Mr Bhatti said local pubs are "far more than just places to enjoy a drink", describing them as important community hubs where people meet, celebrate special occasions and support local organisations.

"Across Meriden and Solihull East, we are fortunate to have so many fantastic pubs that make our towns and villages such wonderful places to live," he said.

"This competition is an opportunity to recognise the hardworking landlords, staff and volunteers who go above and beyond every day.

"Whether it's your local for a traditional Sunday lunch, the friendliest welcome, the perfect pint or outstanding service to the community, I want to hear about it."

Mr Bhatti said last year's winner, The Greenwood, demonstrated what the competition is all about by securing strong backing from local residents.

He encouraged people across the constituency to nominate their favourite pub and help shine a spotlight on the area's hospitality venues.

Residents can submit nominations until 31 August via the competition website.
