Roadworks are set to begin on a busy Solihull road as part of plans to upgrade a cycle route.

Work on the Blossomfield Road cycle route will start on Monday 20 July, with improvements aimed at making the route safer for cyclists and creating a fully segregated lane.

The scheme will see the existing bolt-down "orca" kerbs and wands replaced with traditional kerbing.

The works will be carried out during the school summer holidays, with two teams working on different sections of the route to speed up completion.

The first team will begin outside Tudor Grange Leisure Centre on 20 July and travel south towards Stratford Road.

A second team will start on 27 July at the Dingle Lane Junction, also working south.

Blossomfield Road will remain open throughout the works, but motorists have been warned there could be congestion at times while the upgrades take place.

The cycle lane will be closed in sections as work progresses, while side roads along the route will be temporarily closed when construction reaches individual junctions.

Traffic lights will be installed to help manage traffic flow and reduce disruption.

The improvements follow proposals shared by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council with residents earlier this year as part of efforts to encourage active travel and improve cyclist safety.
