Rescheduled storm roadworks force full weekend closure on M42
By Emily Griffin 29th Oct 2026
A full weekend closure of the M42 will now take place this weekend after planned roadworks were rescheduled due to Storm Austen.
The closure will affect the M42 northbound between junctions 6 and 9 and southbound between junctions 9 and 7.
It will begin at 9pm on Friday, October 30, and remain in place until 5am on Monday, November 2.
The works were originally planned for the previous weekend but were postponed because of forecast high winds associated with Storm Austen.
The closure will also affect links between the M6 junction 4a and the M42, as well as the M6 northbound link at junction 3a towards the M6 Toll and the M6 Toll southbound from junction T2.
A fully signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closure.
The works are being carried out by Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) as part of the construction of HS2.
Contingency dates have been set for the weekend of November 6 to 9 if the work cannot be completed as planned.
