Developer Spitfire Homes reveals plans for 54 new homes

A small Solihull village could grow in size by more than 50 homes if a developer gains permission from planners.

Spitfire Homes has unveiled plans to build a new estate of 54 homes on land off Creynolds Lane in the village of Chewisk Green which currently has a population of around 1,700.

A full planning application was lodged with Solihull Council earlier this month and neighbours are now being given the chance to have their say.

The proposed site is 3.14 hectares in size with Creynolds Lane to the north and Shirley Golf Club at the south.

And a mix one to five bedroom homes is being proposed.

A planning statement written by agents Marrons which is included in the application says: "The site lies within the green belt however, the proposals meet the criteria for development on 'grey belt' land.

"If the council concludes the land is not grey belt a clear and compelling set of very special circumstances exists to outweigh any identified harm.

"The development will deliver 27 affordable dwellings. The proposals have been designed to create an attractive, high‑quality living environment that respects local character.

"The scheme also delivers meaningful wider community benefits. These include new public open space, children's play provision, sustainable access improvements, and the applicant's willingness to contribute towards specific local infrastructure needs including the delivery of a shared pedestrian/cycle path along Creynolds Lane.

"In addition the proposal will support the long-term viability of Shirley Golf Club, helping to sustain a valued community asset through the release of their surplus land and the reinvestment of proceeds into upgrading the club's ageing facilities.

"These considerations clearly outweigh the harm to the green belt and the limited additional adverse impact."

Eye-catching artist's impressions have been included in the application showing the proposed look of the new homes and a children's play area.

A consultation is now underway with a closing date for submissions of May 6.
