Most Chiltern trains to run despite October strikes
By Emily Griffin 5th Oct 2026
The vast majority of Chiltern Railways services will continue to operate as normal despite planned strike action by members of the RMT union later this month.
The rail operator said more than 93 per cent of services are expected to run on Saturday, October 10 and Saturday, October 17, with the normal number of trains operating to and from London Marylebone.
However, four long-distance services will only run for part of their journeys.
The 6.44am service from Stourbridge Junction to London Marylebone will start from Banbury, while the 8.19am service will start from Birmingham Moor Street.
In the evening, the 6.02pm service from London Marylebone to Stourbridge Junction will terminate at Birmingham Moor Street and the 7.32pm service will terminate at Banbury.
There will also be no Chiltern Railways services between Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington Spa on either day.
Tony Baxter, Interim Managing Director of Chiltern Railways, said the company was "disappointed" that RMT members had voted in favour of industrial action.
He said: "Industrial action has been announced by the RMT on 10 and 17 October, we expect to operate the vast majority of our services limiting the impact on customers.
"Every East West Rail service will have two people on board — the Driver, and a colleague looking after passengers: checking tickets, helping people who need assistance, and on hand to assist with any issues."
Mr Baxter added that Chiltern Railways had operated most of its services with drivers controlling train doors "for decades, safely and as approved by the independent rail regulator".
He said the company remained committed to working with the RMT to resolve the dispute.
On Saturday, October 10, many services to and from London Marylebone will also call at Wembley Stadium to help passengers travelling to the Girlguiding Big Gig at Wembley Arena.
Updated timetables for both strike dates have been uploaded to journey planners.
