All lanes of the M6 northbound have reopened after a HGV fire caused a lengthy closure near Castle Bromwich.
The motorway was closed between junction 5 at Castle Bromwich and junction 7 at Great Barr during the early hours of Tuesday (October 6).
West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service attended the scene after the HGV caught fire.
The fire was extinguished by around 2am, but clean-up and recovery work was then needed to remove cargo and debris from the carriageway.
Forklifts were brought in to clear the debris, with West Midlands Fire Service later requested to return to the scene.
By 6am, lanes one and two of the three-lane motorway remained closed, while lane one of the link road from the A38(M) northbound onto the M6 was also shut.
Delays increased to more than 22 minutes, with around two miles of congestion reported by 7am.
All lanes reopened by 8am, although residual delays of more than 20 minutes and two miles of congestion remained on the approach.
Drivers travelling through the Castle Bromwich area were advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
